Plastic Electronics

Electronic devices made from plastic, i.e. from organic semiconductors or metals, have become an active field of research recently, not only due to its potential applications in large scale, low cost electronics, but also in terms of fundamental issues, since even basic properties of the elementary devices are not yet understood.

We fabricate such devices, e.g. doides or transistors, by various techniques, in particular by electrosynthesis combined with lithographic and deposition techniques, and investigate their electrical and optical properties. Our objective is to learn more about the basic mechanisms that determine, for example, the carrier mobility, the relaxation times or the trap energies. This, in turn, is used to improve upon the materials as well as to design novel applications.
